Self-Hosting
Software auf Hardware betreiben, die du kontrollierst, statt auf Cloud-Dienste Dritter zu setzen.
Self-hosting gives you privacy, control and independence from subscription services. Popular self-hosted replacements include Nextcloud (Google Drive), Immich (Google Photos), Vaultwarden (Bitwarden), Jellyfin (Netflix) and Home Assistant (smart-home clouds).
The appeal goes beyond saving on subscriptions: your data stays on hardware you own, services keep working even if a company shuts down or changes its terms, and you can customise everything. The responsibilities are the flip side of that freedom — you become the administrator, which means keeping software updated, securing anything you expose, and maintaining tested backups. A sensible way to start is with one useful, low-risk service (Pi-hole and Jellyfin are popular first projects), get comfortable running and backing it up, then expand as your confidence grows.
