CasaOS

CasaOS exists to make self-hosting feel friendly. Install it on top of a minimal Linux system and it presents a clean, phone-style dashboard where you can install popular apps — a media server, file browser, downloader, and more — with a single click, no terminal required. Under the hood it is just Docker, so you are not locked into a proprietary system.

It is the ideal on-ramp for someone curious about running their own services but intimidated by the command line. You get a visual overview of your apps, basic file management, and simple system monitoring in one tidy interface. Because everything is standard Docker underneath, you can still drop to the CLI or import your own compose files as you grow more confident.

The trade-off is flexibility: CasaOS is less powerful than managing Docker directly or running a full hypervisor like Proxmox, and its app catalog, while handy, is smaller than the wider ecosystem. Many people start on CasaOS, learn the concepts, and later graduate to raw Docker Compose or Proxmox — which is exactly the journey it is designed to support.
